The Tidewater Trio Project brings Virginian Hip-hop in Hampton Roads to life as a dissertation album and archive produced by Danielle Davis (DanieDoesMusicology). Each track pieces together the musical lives of Shay Haley, Chad Hugo, and Pharrell Williams, casting them as key contributors of 21st century Hip-hop made in the U.S. South. Built through collaboration with artists of color, the Tidewater Trio Project vividly captures the melodies and memories of Virginians into an immersive experience where sound, narrative, and oral tradition meet.

Danielle Davis, the Producer
Danielle Davis is a Producer-Musicologist whose scholarly narratives engage music, history, and the art of listening. She is a doctoral candidate in Musicology at Florida State University, an inaugural Mellon/ACLS Dissertation Innovation Fellow, and Pre-Doctoral Fellow at Emory University's James Weldon Johnson Institute. Her dissertation project, The Tidewater Trio Project: Virginian Hip-hop in Hampton Roads, ventures boldly into the realm of record production, offering fresh interpretations on cultural productions of Shay Haley, Chad Hugo, and Pharrell Williams inviting audiences to reimagine how history resonates through sound.
